I amn't aware of Soz's 'solution' to dam issue: TN CM

Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said he was not aware of Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz's ''solution'' to resolve the Mullaiperiyar dam issue and declared that the state had no option but to approach the Supreme Court to find a solution to the vexed issue.

Talking to newspersons after chairing party's high level strategy committee and headquarters administrative committee meeting at Anna Arivalayam here, Mr Karunanidhi said the Union Minister had not discussed with him the ''just solution'', he had in his mind.

Mr Soz, who mediated between the two states, had said yesterday that he was trying to ensure both Tamil Nadu and Kerala arrived at an ''acceptable mean'' and had a just solution for the issue which he would disclose at the right time,'' he had said.

Asked about Kerala Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran's remark that deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the dam site would pose threat to national integrity, Mr Karunanidhi said Kerala had no locus standi to talk about national integration after denying water to Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the committees adopted a resolution, urging the DMK government to immediately move the Supreme Court to find a solution to the issue. It said the state government had held talks with Kerala in a bid to foster cordial relations with the neighbouring state and as suggested by the apex court.

But having failed to resolve the issue, the DMK Government had no option, but to approach the Supreme Court, the resolution said.
