Ethical conduct of business stressed

Ahmedabad, Jan 6 (UNI) The need for ethical conduct, for the long-term interest of a business organisation, was highlighted on the second day of NICOM-2007, the 10th annual international conference on management here today.

Ethical conduct is a must for any business organisation, New Delhi-based International Management Institute professor Dr A K Singh stressed.

Speaking on ''Corporate governance, business ethics, and corporate social responsibility'', Dr Singh said there is vital need for ethical conduct as a long-term necessity for any business organisation.

Prof Bradley Bowden, associate professor in the department of management at Griffith Business School, enunciated as to how an ethical enterprise can derive considerable competitive advantage in view of today's discerning and quality-conscious consumer.

A session on ''Mergers and Acquisitions'' was addressed by Prof Rakesh B Sambharya of the School of Business, Rutgers University, New Jersey.

Middlesex University faculty Dr Jatin Pancholi spoke about acquisition of youtube by Google in 2006. Ms Aanal P Bhagwati, Management Consultant, US, spoke about the role of HR in acquisitions.

Ms Peta Stevenson-Clarke of Griffith University presented her paper on ''Academic dishonesty'' and noted that competitiveness in all fields and the present nature and structure of universities and examinations, were the chief reasons for this rising trend.

Hyderabad-based ICFAI Business School dean Prof V R K Prasad stressed that India should start treating education as an important economic resource.

Kanishka Shukla of NIILM School of Business Management, New Delhi, spoke about how movies can be used as the basis of case studies to teach management students. He cited the example of the movie ''Lagaan'' in this regard.

The conference has attracted 350 research abstracts out of which 185 full papers were contributed by delegates from India and abroad.

Two books of selected papers were also released during the Inaugural session of the conference, Nirma Institute of Management Director Prof Upinder Dhar informed.
