CLTA seeks support for Vijayant Malik
Chandigarh, Jan 6 (UNI) The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association chairman Rajan Kashyap today sought support of the All India Tennis Association, the Government of India and sponsors to promote 16-year-old Vijayant Malik who gave a good account of himself in the just concluded ITF junior tourney.
In a letter to AITA Secretary General Anil Khanna, Mr Kashyap said Malik, who hails from Panipat in Haryana, had been training with CLT for the last five years.
A member of the Indian Junior Davis Cup Under-16 team, Vijayant Malik today finished a creditable runner-up to third seed Alexey Tikhonov in the ITF Junior World Ranking (Grade 3) Tennis Tournament.
Mr Kashyap pointed out that Malik had been depending entirely on the financial support from the CLTA.
In his letter Mr Kashyap wrote ''Vijayant is clearly one of India's future champions. In order to encourage him to reach his true potential we should give him the maximum support for training as well as participation in the tournament at the international level.'' Mr Kashyap has also suggested that players like Malik should have a travelling coach.
