Asom killings barbaric acts of terrorism: ACHR
New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) Asian Centre for Human Rights today condemned the killing of at least 40 people and injuring of dozens in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Asom since January 5.
A statement here termed the killings targeting Hindi-speaking labourers as ''barbaric acts of terrorism''.
''The targeting of innocent civilians shows a complete contempt for the most fundamental principles of humanity and such widespread killings constitute crimes against humanity,'' Asian Centre for Human Rights Director Suhas Chakma said.
The targeting of particular linguistic groups were naked attempts to raise communal tensions, he added.
''The state must take appropriate measures to ensure communal harmony, provide security to the prospective target groups and to bring the perpetrators to justice,'' Mr Chakma further said.
