New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary S K Aggarwal and state DGP Bua Singh today appeared in the Supreme Court and assured that there will no delay from the side of the state and all efforts would be made to conclude expeditiously the trial against UP MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh involved in over 40 criminal cases.

Akhilesh Pratap Singh was a Congress MLA but was later expelled from the party and is facing trial in the murder of Rakesh Kumar.

The trial was being delayed as the state was not producing co-accused in the case for over two years and hence trial could not make any progress.

Singh had challenged the Allahabad High Court judgment cancelling his bail in the Supreme Court.

A bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishanan and D K Jain discharged the two top bureaucrats after they informed the court that the trial in the case has started as the co- accused has been produced in the trial court on January 3 and also recorded the assurance given by the two that in future all efforts would be made to expedite the trial.

The apex court adjourned the hearing of the case till February 9.

Earlier the apex court had directed the two top officers of the state to appear personally in the court to explain the circumstances under which the state police was not able to produce the co=accused before the trial court.

The state police had earlier expressed its inability to produce the co-accused in the court for security reasons.

Singh is supporting the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in the state.
