Tension prevails in sugar factory in Bijapur
Bijapur, Karnataka, Jan 5 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the campus of Shri Shivkumar Sugar factory at Hirebevanoor in the district as thousands of farmers staged a dharna in front of it and attempted to take control of the factory.
Factory Managing Committee Director Shivanand Patil, MLA, who led the agitating farmers, warned the factory President that the stir would not be withdrawn until their seven point charter of demands was considered.
Their demands included payment of Rs 1,200 per tonne of sugarcane, issue of share certificates for the amount deducted in last year's bill and fixation of Rs 11 lakh as the limit for shares held by the Directors.
The agitators attempted to take control of the factory, but the police denied them entry as prohibitory orders had been clamped.
