Situation returns to normal in Sonamura
Agartala, Jan 5 (UNI) The overall situation in Sonamura under Tripura's west district returned to normal today after yesterday's pitched battle between villagers and TSR jawans over fencing activities.
Police sources told UNI today that fencing works have resumed after the invervention of security personnel at North N C nagar at Sonamura, bordering Bangladesh.
Two TSR jawans were injured when villagers attacked them with lethal weapons and more than five villagers received minor injuries during the police lathi-charge.
The villagers had protested the ongoing border fencing works at Sonamura yesterday.
The mob had severely beaten up the supervisor of the fencing work, sources said.
The TSR jawans also fired ten rounds in self defence as per the order of Executive Magistrate, when they were unable to disperse the agitated mob.
However, casualties had been reported due to the firing.
The main culprit who had allegedly instigated the mob had been arrested and was produced before the court, sources said.
