Shimla shivers at minus one degree
Shimla, Jan 5 (UNI) The coldwave conditions sweeping Himachal Pradesh showed no signs of abating with mercury plummeting to minus one degree Celsius at Shimla, which recorded the lowest night temperature of the season, the met office said today.
The night temperature in the state capital plummeted to minus one degree from 3.8 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday, making it the coldest night of the season, despite a clear and a bright sunny day today.
Kalpa in Kinnuar district of the state also shivered under intense coldwave conditions with mercury dipping to minus 4.3 degrees from 3.9 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.
The met office said people in Sundernagar and Bhuntar towns of the state also shivered under night temperatures of minus 1.1 and minus 0.6 degree Celsius respectively.
Almost all places in the higher altitude areas of the tribal districts of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnuar, Kullu and Chamba districts were recording night temperatures between minus 15 to minus 20 degrees, it said.
The met office said the minimum temperature of Una town in the state dropped below freezing point as people groaned under intense coldwave conditions.
The intense coldwave conditions continued in other mid and lower hills of the state too with several places recording below normal day and night temperatures today, the met office added.
