Shamator tense, but under control
Kohima, Jan 5: Nagaland government officials, with the help of Tuensang district administration, are holding talks with the leaders of warring Tikhir and Yinchumger tribes here today.
Talking to sources Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner T N Mannen said the situation in Shamator was tense but under control.
Meanwhile, the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) have alleged that the Nagaland police personnel killed four persons and injured as many at Shamator village on Wednesday. They also gave the names of those killed and injured.
But official sources so far could not confirm any casualty as the police failed to enter the village.
Incidentally, the Tikhir tribe, which was counted as a sub-tribe of the Yinchumger tribe, refused to stay with Yinchumger and demanded recognition as a separate tribe. The current conflict began since December 30 when the Yinchumger Students Union announced to hold their annual conference at Shamator, which was opposed by the TTC.
