Researchers should work on mission 'complete vison': Kalam
Madurai, Jan 5 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today said ''Complete vision'' should be the mission of the researchers, and called upon opthalmologists to work together to remove all causes of avoidable blindness.
Addressing after laying the foundation stone for Dr G Venkataswamy Eye Research Institute here, Dr Kalam said researchers in this institute should work on a mission for complete vision.
''Eye problems of patients could be corrected, if diagnosed initially. This must be the research focus. A closed cycle among researchers, pharma co-technologists, doctors and nurses will enable availability of quality eye care at an affordable cost to every citizen in this region,'' the President said.
Emerging virtual reality, and micro machines and convergence of technologies would transform the eye healthcare scenario, he said adding if the researchers and doctors came together the world would become a more lightened and brighter place to live.
Paying glowing tributes to late Dr Venkataswamy, Dr Kalam said ''complete vision is the mission- was the life time mission of the eminent opthalmologist''.
''I have known Dr Venkatasamy for over three decades. He is known for his silent contribution in providing light to thousands of blind people. All his life, he worked for total elimination of avoidable blindness,'' the President added.
''Creation of Dr G Venkataswamy Eye Research Institute will be the most fitting tribute for this noble soul who had relentlessly worked for giving light to people,'' he said.
