Polish swimming champion Jedrzejczak faces trial

WARSAW, Jan 5 (Reuters) Polish Olympic swimming gold-medallist Otylia Jedrzejczak will go on trial next week over a road crash in October 2005 which killed her younger brother, officials said today.

''Otylia Jedrzejczak is officially charged for unintentionally causing an accident and death,'' said Radoslaw Jarosinski, a judge from Plonsk, where the trial will take place.

Prosecutors said earlier that Jedrzejczak, who won three Olympic and six world championship butterfly medals, was driving at 120 kph, 30 kph above the speed limit.

She could face a prison term from six months to eight years.

After the accident, which killed her 19-year-old brother, Jedrzejczak spent two months away from sport, but returned to win a gold medal at the European Championships in 2006.
