Nearly 1000 apply for Cong tickets in Punjab

Fatehgarh Sahib, Jan 5 (UNI) Nearly 1000 aspirants have applied for Congress tickets to contest Punjab assembly elections to be held on February 13.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) General Secretary Rajpal Singh here today said,''PPCC has received around 1000 applications for 117 constituencies in Punjab till today, the last date for submitting the applications.'' The prominent leaders who applied for the tickets are Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Dr Manjit Kaur, the daughter of late former President Giani Zail Singh.

However, PPCC president Shamsher Singh Dullo did not apply for the ticket while his wife Harbans Kaur Dullo, a sitting MLA from Khanna applied.

The PPCC president had already cleared his position that he would contest assembly election only if the party High Command directed him.

Each candidate submitted Rs 5,000 as security fee along with the application.
