Mulayam orders CBI probe in Nithari, Kavita Rani cases

Lucknow, Jan 5 (UNI) Cornered by the opposition and Raj Bhawan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav tonight agreed to separate CBI probes in the Nithari serial killings and the alleged murder of Meerut University ad hoc lecturer Kavita Rani Chaudhury.

''I have taken the decision to order CBI probe after Governor T Rajeshwar wrote to me a letter for it (Nithari case)...the opposition is also playing politics on bodies of victims,'' he said.

Addressing a hurriedly convened news conference at his official residence here, Mr Yadav said the decision for CBI probe was also suggested by his officials.

The Chief Minister announced a residential plot for each victim's family of Nithari incident, besides to consider demand for government jobs.

The state government would write tonight itself, the letter to the central agency to carry out both the probes.

Appreciating the role of the UP Police in working out both the cases, Mr Yadav said, ''I personally laud the role of the state police in both Nithari and Kavita Rani cases.'' He also congratulated SSP (Gautam Buddha Nagar) R P S Rathore for the speedy investigation in Nithari killings. ''I thank them for their work.'' Asked if state Primary Education Minister Kiran Pal Singh would resign over his alleged involvement in Kavita case, Mr Yadav said since the case has been referred to the CBI, the state government has no role to play.
