Karnataka register outright victory against TN

Bangalore, Jan 5 (UNI) Karnataka trounced Tamil Nadu by ten wickets and gained a bonus point in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

Forcing Tamil Nadu to follow on, the hosts dismissed the visitors for 246 in the second innings and hit the requisite 28 runs for a victory in 3.5 overs, without losing a wicket.

The win boosted Karnataka's tally to 15 points from six matches, while Tamil Nadu continued to languish at four points from as many matches.

Overnight 130 for three in the second knock, Tamil nadu could add only 116 runs today with skipper S Badrinath scoring a valiant 63 to be the team's top scorer. Left arm spinner Sunil Joshi (3/87) and medium pacer C Raghu (3/51) were the main wicket takers for the home team. Appanna and Vinaya Kumar claimed two wickets each, conceding 61 and 28 runs respectively.

Badrinath, in his 227-minute stay at the crease, tried his best for a draw to save face, but his attempts were shattered when Rowland took a briliant catch at silly point off Joshi. Tamil Nadu was reduced to 161 for four at that point. The remaining six wickets crumbled like cookies as Karnataka bowlers got them out for the addition of a meagre 85 runs.
