Udupi, Karnataka, Jan 5 (UNI) Karnataka Lok Ayukta Mr Justice N Santosh Hegde today stressed the urgent need for lawyers to avoid seeking unnecessary adjournments and the Government to provide required infrastructure to the legal system to minimise the huge pendency of cases in various courts in the country.

Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Vaikunta Baliga College of Law here, he noted that disposal of cases had become slow mainly because the lawyers indulged in delay tactics and due to lack of infrastructure for the legal system.

Mr Justice Hegde said that to keep up the nobility of the profession, the apex body of the legal profession should do something which needed sacrifices.

Referring to criticisms about his frequent visits to his home district after assuming charge as Lok Ayukta, he clarified that the expenses for his personal visits were neither claimed from the Government nor using Government machinery. After he assumed charge, the number of raids have increased, he added.
