Garib Rath passengers have miraculous escape

Phagwara, Jan 5: Passengers of Saharasa-bound Garib Rath Express train escaped miraculously today, after the train passed over a cracked portion of the railway track, near Jassian between Phillaur and Ludhiana.

The passengers felt jerks while the train passed over the cracked portion of the down line. Cracks have also developed in up line railway tracks between Chiherru and Jalandhar-Cantonment due to cold weather, railway sources said.

The sources said as a result of cracks on the tracks, Delhi-bound Shatabadi Express was stopped for more than one hour near Ladhuwal railway station, Sachkhand Express was detained at Phillaur railway Station and Amritsar-bound Dehradun Express was halted at Chiherru railway station. One goods train bound for Pathankot was also detained near the Jalandhar-Cantonment railway station.

The sources, however, added that restoration of normal traffic on both up and down lines on Ludhiana-Jalandhar rail section would take one and half hours, as the damaged tracks were being repaired.
