ECB order comprehensive review after Ashes flop

LONDON, Jan 5 (Reuters) The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is instigating a comprehensive review after England's 5-0 Ashes whitewash by Australia.

England held the Ashes for just 15 months and were completely outplayed by Australia in the series that ended earlier today with a 10-wicket defeat.

In a statement ECB chief executive David Collier said: ''The performance in the Ashes series has been a great disappointment and a number of lessons must be learned.

''This review will be comprehensive and broad-ranging with the clear objective of regaining the Ashes in 2009 and significantly improving England's results in one-day international cricket in the next four-year cycle.'' The statement added that John Carr, the ECB's Director of English Cricket, had also been asked to complete the customary report on the Ashes tour by February for actions to be implemented before the World Cup.
