Do not remove Ambedkar statue: CPI (ML) to Pondy
Puducherry, Jan 5: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) today urged the administration not to remove the Ambedkar statue from Patthukkannu junction.
In a statement here party state council member P Sankaran said though the statue was unexpectedly errected by some unidentified persons without obtaining due permission from the government, considering the sentiments of the dalit community the government should allow it to remain at the same place.
It should take steps to strengthen the pedestal of the statue, he added.
Mr Sankaran also urged the territorial administration to take steps to install a statue of freedom fighter Bhagath Singh, taking into account that 2007 is the birth centenary year of the martyr.
He also urged the administration to withdraw cases registered against party leaders and cader for organising agitations to protest the execution of Sadam Hussein.
