CM announces medical college for Basara

Hyderabad, Jan 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced setting up of a medical college in Basara in Adilabad District in an attempt to defuse the ongoing agitation for locating an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the temple town.

However, opposition parties, including TDP and TRS said they would continue the strike till the government conceded the demand.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the ruling Congress party's brain-storming session, Dr Reddy denied any partisanship in deciding to shift the location of the proposed IIT to Medak. 'I don't have more love for Medak and less love for Adilablad', he said.

A group of Congress Legislators from Adilabad called on the Chief Minister and urged him to consider the demand positively.

'My government has, in fact, passed a resolution urging the Centre to set up the premier institute at Basara', he explained, adding, after a lot of deliberations, the government decided to locate it in Medak to meet infrastructure requirements. The world-class IT Gurukulam was only a first step to enable youth get vocational training for greater job opportunities.
