CBI seeks extradition of Mumbai bomb blast accused from US
New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) CBI has requested the US to extradite Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.
Upon learning about the presence of the fugitive in the US, against whom Interpol had issued Red Corner Notice, CBI asked Interpol, Washington to confirm his identity. And for this purpose the Indian investigative agency sent photographs and dossier of Khan to the authorities in the US, a statement said here today.
CBI requested the US authorities to deport/extradite Khan to India so that he could be brought to justice. He had reportedly acquired US citizenship.
Khan was one of the key conspirators in the Mumbai blasts case that resulted in the death of 257 people and injuries to 713 others, besides loss of property running into crores of rupees.
He also played an important role in the smuggling of illegal arms and explosives into India during January 1993 for the terrorist acts in Mumbai.
CBI got issued Red Corner Notice in 1994 for the arrest of the fugitive.
Meanwhile, TADA court hearing the Mumbai blasts case after completion of trial had held 100 accused persons guilty of various offences and was in the process of pronouncing sentences in the case.
