Bihar to have State Human Rights Commission

Patna, Jan 5 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to constitute a State Human Rights Commission on the pattern of the National Human Rights Commission.

Home Commissioner (incharge) Amir Subbhani told newspersons here today that the decision was taken during the meeting of the special committee headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

He said selection of the president and members of the commission was discussed in the meeting attended by its members, including Bihar Assembly Speaker Udainarayan Choudhry, acting Chairman Bihar Legislative Council Prof Arun Kumar and opposition leader in the legislative council Ghulam Gaus.

Leader of the opposition in the state asembly Rabri Devi was absent.

He said apart from the president, who would be a retired Chief Justice of any high court, the commission would have two members.

He said the formalities for constitution of the commission would be completed at the earliest.
