All party meet discusses Constitutional Amendment Bill

Jammu, Jan 5 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Legislators representing various political parties met today to discuss the 33rd Constitutional Amendment Bill, aimed at increasing the strength of the State Assembly.

Presiding over the meeting, Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Hameed Karra said the aim of this consultation is to build a consensus among various political parties over increasing the strength of the Assembly.

He said as the Bill has long-term political implications, the Government wants to take on-board all the views before proceeding on this crucial issue.

All the participants expressed their views on the bill and it was unanimously decided that they would go back to their respective parties for further consultations before giving the final opinion.

It was decided that another all-party meeting would be held to build the consensus before tabling the Bill in the Assembly.

It is pertinent to mention that the Government has already announced that the strength of the seats in the Assembly would be increased by 25 per cent for which a Delimitation Commission would be constituted.

Minister for Health Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Agriculture Abdul Aziz Zargar, Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, Minister for Power Nawang Rigzin Jora, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather, Panthers Party leader and legislator Harshdev Singh and BJP legislator Jugal Kishore were also present at the meeting.
