All India strike in Gramin Banks total

Kolkata, Jan 05 (UNI) Banking services in all the 4,600 branches of Regional Rural Banks in West Bengal came to halt today in response to a one day all India strike to press for its five point demands.

Called by the Joint Forum of Gramin Bank Unions, the nationwide strike was participated by more than 70,000 employees of 102 RRBs across the country who stayed away from work since morning.

Their five point demands comprised implementation of banking pension, parity with sponsor banks in payment of allowances and benefits, continuance of compassionate appointment scheme and uniform manpower planning,recruitment and promotion policy.

Meanwhile,complimenting the bank employees for successfully observing the strike,Convenor of the Joint Forum of Gramin Bank Unions Dilip Kumar Mukherjee here today claimed that the strike was total all over the country. But as a note of caution he said the unions might opt for further agitational programmes,including dharna before Parliament during the budget session,if their demands were not meet immediately.
