All India Major Ports Championships inaugurated

Visakhapatnam, Jan 5 (UNI) Visakhapatnam Port Trust Deputy Chairman M S Rao today inaugurated the 27th All India Major Ports Badminton and 28th Hockey Championships at the Port Rajiv Gandhi stadium here.

Addressing the gathering, he said the infrastructure available in the sports complex was one of the best in southern India and requested the players to utilise the facilities for the development of sports and games in the port city.

About 95 participants from nine ports participated in badminton and 103 participants from six ports had participated in the hockey championships.

First day's result in the championship badminton: Pool A: Visakhapatnam Port Trust beat Jawaharlal Nehru Port trust (3-0), Kandla Port Trust beat Mormugoa Port Trust (3-0) Pool B league results: Cochin Port Trust beat New Mangalore Port Trust (3-0), Mumbai Port Trust beat Chennai Port Trust (3-0) Hockey results: Chennai Port Trust drew with Tuticorin Port Trust (3) Visakhapatnam Port Trust beat Mumbai Port Trust 2-1 UNI
