Mumbai, Jan 5 (UNI) Feroz Abdul Rasheed Khan, an absconding accused in the 1993 serial bomb blast case, has been detained in the United States of America.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam told UNI that Khan had participated in the landing of deadly RDX and arms and ammunition at Dighi port in Raigad prior to the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai on March 12, 1993, killing 257 and injuring 1400 people.

Earlier, the TADA court had declared Khan, accused No. 19, as a proclaimed offender and issued a Red Corner notice following which the Interpol today intimated the Indian Government of his detainment.

CBI sources said the accused will shortly be deported to India and produced before the TADA court.

It maybe recalled that extradited gangster Abu Salem was also deported from Portugal along with his companion Monica Bedi in 2003.

Salem and his associate Riyaz Siddiqui are currently facing trial. Three months ago, the court separated their trial from the other accused.

The court tried 123 accused in all of which 100 were convicted last month while 23 were acquitted.

Cinestar Sanjay Dutt was acquitted under TADA, but convicted under the Arms Act.

However, the TADA court is yet to decide the quantum of punishment for those pronounced guilty.
