Chennai Veerans starts PHL campaign with victory

Chennai, Jan 4 (UNI) Local outfit Chennai Veerans started their campaign on a fascinating note, scoring a 4-1 victory over Hyderabad Sultans in the pipe-opener of the third ESPN-Premier Hockey League here tonight.

In a one-sided affair, Vikram hoisted the lead in the first quarter for the Veerans and Suresh Kumar made it 2-0 in the third quarter.

International Adam Sinclair struck twice in the same quarter to make it 4-0 before Vikram Pillay pulled one back to reduce the margin.

Earlier, a rich cultural extravaganza marked the inauguration of the event in which seven teams were participating. Kollywood heartthrob Madhavan and versatile actor Vasundhara Das enthralled the audience with a spectacular opening ceremony at the astro-turf stadium.
