Two Quakes hit Meghalaya in six days
Shillong, Jan 2 (UNI) Meghalaya's capital Shillong was hit by a second light intensity earthquake in six days but no injuries or major damage were reported.
Today's quake, measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 1832 hrs with its epicentre about 144 km south west from Central Seismological Observatory (CSO) at Upper Shillong, CSO officials told UNI here.
Last week, a tremor, measuring its magnitude 2.9 on the Richter scale, hit Shillong with its epicentre about 25 km away from CSO here.
The North-Eastern part of India, which falls in the highest Seismic Zone in the country, is prone to earthquakes.
