Two farmers commit suicide in Karnataka
Bangalore, Jan 2 (UNI) Unable to repay the mounting debts, two farmers committed suicide in Karnataka by consuming poison today.
Police said Shankarappa Birad (68) of Srichand village in Aland taluk of Gulbarga district had lost his tur gram crop due to scanty rainfall. Private money lenders, from whom he had borrowed money were pressing for the return of the loan. Unable to repay he took the extreme step in life.
In the other incident a 38-year-old cotton farmer, identified as Iranna, consumed poison as he was not able to repay the loan taken from a nationalised bank three years ago due to crop failure. He was also disturbed over the demise of his wife two months ago, official sources said.
