Trade with Bangladesh suspended for Eid-ul-Zoha
Siliguri, Jan 2: The trade between India and Bangaldesh via three routes of North Bengal has been suspended since December 31 due to Eid-ul-Zoha in that country.
All trading thorough the routes of Changrabandha, Hili and Mehdipur in North Bengal has been suspended after Burimari Roadways Customs Clearing Agent of Bangladesh notified its Indian counterpart that business between December 31 to January 3 will be suspended due to the Eid festival.
President of Changrabandha Export Association Uttam Karmakar told UNI that trade with Bangladesh suffered heavily last year due to political disturbances in that country.
More such business is likely to be affected in the coming months until a new government was formed in Dhaka after the General elections.
Meanwhile, all police stations in the border areas had been alerted, Superintendent of Police, Coochbehar, Anil Kumar told UNI.
He said police were keeping extra vigil so that no tresspassing with smuggling goods takes place acorss the border.
