Suresh Prabhu new Chairperson of GWP
New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu has been selected the chairperson (South Asia) of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), Stockholm, for a period of three years.
Mr Prabhu, a Shiv Sena MP,was a Cabinet minister in the NDA regime.
He had also served as the Chairman of the Task Force on Interlinking of Rivers.
GWP is a network created by several stakeholders including country like Sweden, UNDP, World Bank and several donor agencies like CEDA.
The network has been established to ensure optimum use of scarce water resources in an integrated manner to benefit the world community. Each country has a national water partnership, which consists of all stakeholders like NGOs, governments, industry, media, utilities, farmers, consumers and professionals, among others.
The GWP initiative was based on promoting and implementing integrated water resources management through the development of a worldwide network that could pull together financial, technical, policy and human resources for ensuring sustainable development.
