Sukumari wins Prem Nazir award

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 2 (UNI) Noted South Indian actress Sukumari has been selected for the Prem Nazir award-2007, for best cultural personality in the Malayalam film industry.

Announcing the award, Prem Nazir Foundation Chairman Thalekunnil Basheer in the presence of Prem Nazir's son Shanavas told reporters that the award--carrying a cash prize of Rs 30,000, plaque and a citation--would be presented to her on January 16 here.

A five-member committee headed by Dr D Babu Paul as chairman and Mr K B Gangesh Kumar, MLA, Mr Thalekkunnil Basheer, Mr Poovachal Khader and Mr Chembazanthy Basheer as members selected Sukumari for the 15th award, he informed.

Along with the presentation of award the Foundation would also give away cash prizes to the ''kalaprathibha'' and ''kalathilakam'' in the 2006 Kerala University Youth festival, he added.
