SMC collects Rs 404.91 cr in octroi duty

Surat, Jan 2 (UNI) Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) collected a whopping Rs 404.91 crore in octroi duty during the year 2006.

Octroi collection showed a consistent increase from January to December, SMC sources said. While the octroi duty collection in the month of January 2006 was Rs 36.16 crore, it had mounted to Rs 47 crore in December.

There was, however, a low collection in the month of August due to the floods, sources said. Octroi duty collected in the month of August was Rs 30.17 crore which was the lowest in the year.

The SMC has set up a target of Rs 450 crore in octroi collection for the financial year of 2006-07.
