SAP goes live in BEL Bangalore complex

Bangalore, Jan 2: The Bangalore complex of defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) went live on SAP last week.

Keeping abreast with the usage of IT solutions for optimising its systems and procedures, BEL had been making use of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) since the mid-eighties. It had identified mySAP Business Suite for implementation in all its units and offices spread across the country and overseas.

BEL, in a release here today, said SAP would help synergise the company's resources through information management.

A pilot implementation was carried out at the Components Strategic Business Unit of BEL's Bangalore complex in October 2005.

The other SBUs of Bangalore complex went live in a phased manner during October and November 2006. With this roll-out, the entire Bangalore unit is on SAP.

All the modules of SAP R/3 (Real Time 3-Tier Architecture) and Product Lifecycle Management have been implemented as the first phase. A separate Hospital Management System was under implementation at the Bangalore complex's Hospital. The implementation of R/3 and Product Lifecycle Management at other manufacturing units and offices of BEL would be taken up in a phased manner this year. BEL also planned to implement advanced modules of SAP like Supply Chain Management, Business Information Warehouse, Strategic Enterprise Management and other internet-based applications like Customer Relationship Management and Supplier Relationship Management.
