RTC unions stage dharna against closure of depots

Hyderabad, Jan 2 (UNI) Various employee unions of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) today organised dharnas in all district headqurters protesting against the government's decision to close down 16 APSRTC depots in the state.

Working President of the National Mazdoor Union (NMU) Nageswara Rao told UNI the management had already closed 14 depots and would close four more shortly, without consulting unions. He demanded that the government should not resort to anti-worker policies and close down depots in the name of loss-making units.

He said workers in all district headquarters resorted to dharnas and wore red badges. He said the union would organise a two-day relay hunger strike on January 10 and 11 protesting against the attitude of the management.

The unions would decide the future course of action if the mangement did not respond to their demands, he said.
