Rs 4.78 cr for Meenakshi temple renovation
Chennai, Jan 2 (UNI) The famous Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple in Madurai will be renovated at a cost of Rs 4.78 crore with Central assistance.
An official release here said that the temple and its premises would be renovated under the Tourism Development Project, aided by the Union Government.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced that a sum of Rs 3.82 crore would be released for the work in the first phase.
Certain structures of the centuries-old temple, one of the major tourist attractions in south India, developed cracks.
The Chief Minister deputed an expert team, headed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister, to assess the damage and explore ways to strengthen the structure.
