Robbed gold recovered, 9 held

Lucknow, Jan 2 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested nine miscreants, including a retired army man and a constable, for looting 5 kg gold, in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.

On December 19 last, the miscreants had killed the driver of a Kanpur- based goldsmith and decamped with 11 kg gold in Unnao.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, IG (Lucknow Zone) Chavi Nath Singh said acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the hideout of the accused, in Shuklaganj police station area and arrested them.

A search led to recovery of 5 kg gold, Rs 28.5 lakh cash and jewellery were recovered from their possession.

The arrested were identified as constable Ramakant, ex-soldier Ajay Singh, Sri Pal Yadav, Madal Pal Sunar, Shivkesh Tiwari, Raju, Rakesh Kumar alias Sajole Shukla and Jai Narayan.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to the entire police team. Kanpur traders have also rewarded Rs 5 lakh to the police team.
