Railways revenue earnings up by 14.63 per cent

New Delhi, Jan 2: Sustaining the bouyancy in its net revenues, the Railways earned Rs 1,705.78 crore during December 11-20 of the year gone by as compared to Rs 1488.09 crore during the same period a year earlier, registering an increase of 14.63 per cent.

The goods earnings went up from Rs 1042.18 crore during this period in 2005 to Rs 1189.03 crore last year, showing an increase of 14.09 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings were Rs 460.61 crore as compared to Rs 401.13 crore during the same period in 2005, an increase of 14.83 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 42.73 crore as compared to Rs 33.02 crore while the sundry earnings went up from Rs 11.76 crore to Rs 13.41 crore during the period, showing an increase of 14.03 per cent.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during the December 11-20, 2006 were 185.39 million compared to 171.38 million during the same period a year earlier, showing an increase of 8.17 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked were 110.79 million and 74.60 million compared to 103.21 million and 68.17 million during the previous year, registering an increase of 7.34 per cent and 9.43 per cent respectively.
