Peeved K'taka Wakf Minister quits Cabinet

Bangalore, Jan 2 (UNI) The less than a year old Janata Dal (S)-BJP coalition Government in Karnataka suffered a jolt today as Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan tendered his resignation, peeved at Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy not attending a Bakrid prayer meeting here.

Mr Khan met Governor T N Chaturvedi at the Raj Bhavan this morning and put in his papers.

Talking to reporters after meeting the Governor, he said Mr Kumaraswamy had insulted his community by not attending the prayer meeting, for which he had personally invited him, and would withdraw his resignation only if he apologised to the community.

Acting on the development, Mr Kumaraswamy recommended to the Governor to accept Mr Khan's resignation.
