NCP gives tickets to 7 Congress aspirants for Nagpur polls
Nagpur, Jan 2 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today claimed to have given tickets to nine persons, including seven who had sought nominations from the Congress, for the February 1 elections to the general body of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The nine persons had unsuccessfully sought to get nominations from other parties.
Besides the seven aspirants, tickets were also given to an aspirant each from the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), NCP observer for the civic polls Madan Bafna told newsmen here this evening.
The Congress aspirants, now contesting on NCP tickets, include sitting councillor Munnalal Gaur, he said.
Meanwhile, a total of about 1,250 candidates submitted their forms from the 136 wards in the city as the deadline for nominations passed today, official sources said, adding, the exact figures were being compiled and would be ready only late tonight.
The scrutiny of nominations would take place tomorrow.
The provisional list of candidates would be issued on January 11 and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is January 13.
