NBA holds demonstration outside Social Justice

New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan activists today staged demonstration outside union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry to protest against the alleged non-rehabilitation of people affected by raising of Sadar Sarovar Dam's height.

A NBA delegation also met union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meera Kumar and informed her that even though the work to raise the dam's height was over, about 1.5 lakh affected people were far from been rehabilitated, a statement said.

The Prime Minister's direction that construction should be undertaken only after complete rehabilitation of the affected people had been consigned to the dustbin, it added.

The delegation highlighted problems faced by evacuees both in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The minister promised to look into the matter.

NBA planned to continue the demonstration till its demands were met.
