KRRS seeks white paper on land acquisition

Mysore, Jan 2 (UNI) The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) today demanded a white paper on the allotment of lands to various persons, including industrialists, in the State through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board.

Addressing media persons here, KRRS President K S Puttaniah said the Government should make public allotment of land acquired from farmers, particularly in the urban areas. The Government had not provided suitable compensation for the lands acquired. Though over 35,000 acres of land had been taken over from the farmers for various purposes, a recent survey showed that only 13,000 acres had been acquired, he alleged.

Charging the Government with acquiring fertile lands, he demanded that the land losers should be paid compensation as per the market rates and provided employment opportunities.

The KRRS would stage a demonstration in front of the Mysore KIADB office on January four, protesting against acquiring about 5,000 acres of land on the outskirts of the city. The KRRS also demanded a meeting with the officials concerned in this regard.
