fifteen seeds fall in AITA Champs

Kolkata, Jan 2 (UNI) As many as 15 seeded players fell by the wayside in the AITA Championship Series at the BTA Complex today.

In Boys' Singles U-16 fourth seed Mohd. Yasser Nomani of UP and sixth seeded Navneet Kumar lost their respective matches. Nomani was scalped by Ayush Dharewa 6-0,6-1 and Navneet Kumar was taken care of by Prem Singh 6-2,6-0 in the pre-quarter finals.

In the Boys' Singles U-18 first round matches second seed Prosonjit Paul of Jharkhand lost to Haryana's Karan Chaudhary 1-6, 6-7(2-7). Third seed Rahul Singroly of MP was ousted by Andhra Pradesh's Ch. Rohit 1-6,0-6. Fourth seed Bibaswan Deb was stretched and defeated by AP's N. Sai Kartik 7-5,4-6,5-7 and eighth seeded Keshav Parthasarathy of Haryana lost to MP's Dushyant Verma 4-6,3-6.

In the pre quarter finals of Boys' Singles U-18, Akshay Ashok made short work of sixth seeded Soumit Dey 6-3,6-1. Rohan Ray ousted the fifth seed Baibhav Das in straight sets 7-5,7-5.

The only casualty in the Girls' Singles U-16 pre-quarter finals was second seed Mohana Sarker. Amrita Mukherjee defeated Mohana 6-1,6-3 to book a place in the quarter finals.

Girls' Singles U-8 was rendered headless by Danielle Jones.

Danielle beat top seed Treta Bhattacharyya 6-7(5-7),6-1,6-3 in the pre-quarter finals. Andrea Das came back from one set down to beat seventh seeded Srestha Banerjee 2-6,6-3,6-1. Chandigarh's Jaanesh M.

Kaur whitewashed sixth seed Snigdha Kapoor 6-0,6-0. Earlier Arundhuti Basu beat fifth seed Pamir Gogoi of Asom 6-2,6-2 in the first round while Mandovi Mullick defeated fourth seeded Baljinder Kaur of Haryana 7-5,6-3.
