New Delhi, Jan 2: Dense fog continues to play havoc with flight schedules at the International airport for the second consecutive day resulting in cancellation of as many as 50 domestic flights, scheduled to depart from the International airport.

The fog this morning reduced visibility below 200m. ''While 50 domestic flights scheduled to depart from the airport were cancelled, 36 domestic arrivals had to be cancelled due to poor visibility. Also cancelled were one International departure and one International arrival,''a spokesperson of the Airports authority of India said.

Arrival and departure of 30 flights, including eight International flights, were rescheduled due to fog which enveloped the Delhi skyline since the night of December 31, the spokesperson said.

''The dense fog plummeted visibility to near zero at the night of December 31, with the result that the low visibility procedures had to be put into operation.

In fact, even though the visibility improved yesterday afternoon, it kept fluctuating between low and normal levels. Consequently, the low visibility procedures have been in operation since 2042 hrs on December 31,'' the spokesperson said.

The visibility levels had been fluctuating between 450 m and 750 m this morning.

Altogether since the night of December 31, about 300 flights have either been cancelled or rescheduled. Weathermen attribute the dense fog in the capital since the night of December 31 to the ground frost conditions prevailing over isolated pockets of Punjab, North Haryana and North Rajasthan.

They have forecast that foggy weather would prevail for the next 24 hours.
