Dejected Barmy Army not to stay back for post-Ashes ODI series
London, Jan 2 (UNI) The Barmy Army has had enough of England's pathetic Ashes display and fearing a more severe thrashing in the tri-nation ODI series that follows the Tests, the group is planning to head straight back home after the ongoing match in Sydney.
''One-day cricket isn't much of a thing in the UK. I don't know anyone who is staying on after the Sydney Test,'' Barmy Army spokeswoman Nicky Bowes was quoted by the 'Daily Mirror' as saying.
England have been nothing short of poor in the ongoing series, having failed to win a single Test so far. The defending champions have lost the coveted urn after just 16 months of winning it at home and are struggling to avoid a 5-0 whitewash in the series.
The English have been hit by injuries with skipper Andrew Flintoff playing with a sore ankle and after their fourth successive loss at Melbourne, reports of a rift in the team have also surfaced.
Meanwhile, former England captain Tony Greig said he did not see the visitors doing any better in the ODI series, which will also feature New Zealand, and described the one-day form of Flintoff's men as 'atrocious'.
''Their record in one-day cricket is atrocious. Forget about the (Ashes) whitewash, they could go home not having won a single game.
There is concern they need some opposition down here to give these people a run,'' he said.
