Cold claims 62 lives in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow, Jan 2: The death toll due to cold today mounted to 62 in Uttar Pradesh, following the death of two people in the last 24 hours.
The entire UP reeled under a cold wave for the fourth consecutive day and the cold would continue in the coming days.
A report from Allahabad said two people died of cold under Colonelganj and Dhoomanganj police station areas.
Allahabad and Gorakhpur divisions witnessed a fall in the night temperature, the met office told UNI here.
Allahabad at 6.5 degrees Celsius -- 3 degrees below normal -- was the coldest place in UP for the third consecutive day.
The state capital recorded 7.5 degrees, while 7.2 degrees was recorded in Kanpur.
The sun shone brightly in Jhansi, where temperature was recorded 6 degrees above normal.
In Agra, Kanpur and Jhansi divisions experienced a slight increase in the night temperature in the past 24 hours.
A report from Allahabad, which is continuously witnessing a dip in night temperature, said people are faced with problems due to heavy load shedding. Due to thick fog blanket, the road transport also came to a standstill.
A similar report was received from Gorakhpur, where people faced hardships owing to hazy sky till late afternoon.
Till reports last poured in, all major trains, including Lucknow bound Ganga Gompti Express and Delhi bound Prayagraj Express, were running late.
According to weatherman, mornings would continue to be foggy.
The density of fog would depend on moisture content in the atmosphere and the velocity in the coming days.
When moisture comes in contact with the icy winds, it turns into fog. The weatherman have forecast mainly hazy skies with mist fog blanket during the early and late hrs.
