Chauhan joins Congress

New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Samajwadi Party leader Dara Singh Chauhan today joined the Congress.

A former Member of Rajya Sabha, Mr Chauhan joined the party at the AICC headquarters here in the presence of Party Treasurer Motilal Vora.

AICC Secretary in charge of Media Tom Vadakkan said in a statement that Mr Chauhan had expressed his full faith and confidence in the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Party sources said he had earlier met Ms Gandhi. He did not meet her today as she was not in the city.

Sources said the entry of Mr Chauhan in the Congress was significant in the context of the forthcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Chauhan hails from Azamgarh, one of the strongholds of Samajwadi Party supremo and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
