New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) The BJP today gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the Mulayam Singh Government to order a CBI inquiry into the Nithari village serial killing case failing which it would launch a strong agitation to force the government to quit office.

The party also demanded that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh apologise for the serial killing of children whose skeletal remains were found from a house in Nithari village in Noida. It wanted the Home Ministry to take cognisance of the incident and direct the State Government to take firm action in this regard. It should explore the possibility of imposing President's rule in the state.

Talking to mediapersons, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the incident was a blot on a civil society and there should be no delay in instituting a CBI inquiry into it to nab the culprits.

He said the party and the people had no trust in the state police and the Special Task Force inquiry would only be an eyewash.

He regretted that the police took no action despite continous complaints by the people about the disappearance of about 30 children within a span of one year.

Mr Javadekar said the whole law and order machinery had collapsed in the state and the party had already demanded that the assembly elections in the state be held under President's rule.
