Adivasis siege police outpost on New Year
Banka, Jan 2 (UNI) Eight policemen were suspended after hundreds of tribals armed with bows and arrows, today kept Jaipur police outpost in Banka district under siege for several hours.
They were protesting against alleged harassment by the policemen of the villagers celebrating new year day.
The incident took place yesterday when policemen visited a nearby adivasi village, where the people were celebrating new year, and demanded money, the villagers alleged.
District police superintendent D N Gupta rushed to the spot with reinforcement and told the villagers that the policemen involved in the extortion bid had been placed under suspension.
Mr Gupta said action had been taken against the policemen as the allegations against were found prima facie true.
