5 cops injured in Mathura violence

Mathura, Jan 2 (UNI) At least seven people, including five policemen, were injured after two groups clashed over a dispute here today.

Talking to newspersons, DIG (Agra Range) Akhilesh Mahlotra said a fight between two communities snowballed into a full-fledged clash, in which seven people, including five cops, were wounded when the rival groups resorted to stone pelting.

The police had to fire in the air to pacify the mob.

Meanwhile, 30 accused have been taken into custody and section 144 been promulgated in the city.

A 22-member peace committee has been formed after members of two communities clashed last evening. Police made no arrest due to Id-ul-Zuha.

Today's incident occurred this morning in the absence of the peace committee members.

Police had been deployed to avoid any fresh violence.
