22-day medical camp gets underway in Kutch village

Bhuj, Jan 2 (UNI) Over 40 doctors from the US and the UK will participate in a 22-day medical camp which got underway in a Kutch village today.

The camp is being organised for the 33rd time by the Bidada Sarvoday Trust in Bidada and the Jain Association of North America (JAINA).

About 25,000 patients will receive treatment during the camp, JAINA medical committee head Dr Vijay Chheda informed. Over 100 doctors from Mumbai belonging to 35 disciplines are also participating in the camp.

He said about 1100 surgeries will be performed at the camp. In case of complicated surgeries, the patients will be sent to Mumbai by the Trust and treated at its listed hospitals free of cost.

The camp is an annual feature and in the past 32 years, at least 26 lakh patients have received treatment, said Bidada Sarvodaya Trust managing trustee Bachubhai Rambhiya said.

Dr Chheda said another 25 final students, several of their professors and seven doctors of the New York State University have arrived in Gadsisa village of Kutch to study Dental cases. ''They go to different countries every year for their practicals. This year, we have invited them to India,'' he said.

The students will be spending a week in the village and carrying out studies on dental health and providing treatment too with the help of the accompanying doctors.
